Established in 2000, the Network of Small Reserves (NSR) is an initiative revealing TSC's commitment to the protection of various ecosystems in Costa Rica. Currently the NSR is made up of five private protected areas, which, due to their location, allow for the connectivity and conservation of sectors of high environmental vulnerability. These are:
Objectives of the NSR Program:
-
To conserve biodiversity and provide refuge for wildlife, particularly in the areas where forest cover has been highly altered or fragmented.
-
To establish an integrated model for managing based on private protected areas.
-
To promote activities that increase conservation of natural resources, research, and environmental education.
-
To encourage actions that contribute to the explanation of socio-environmental factors through environmental education, eco-tourism, and the support of sustainable rural development in communities adjacent to the protected areas.
