TSC, together with the University of York, promote the establishment and consolidation of the Alexander Skutch Biological Corridor, which proposes to join the Las Nubes Biological Reserve and the Alexander Skutch "Los Cusingos" Bird Sanctuary with one of the protected areas declared by UNESCO as a heritage of humanity, the bi-national La Amistad Park, located between Costa Rica and Panama.
With the establishment of this Corridor, it is sought to:
- Reclaim and protect the only remaining seasonal tropical evergreen forest in the country.
- Reestablish the biological connectivity between the La Amistad Biosphere Reserve and the remaining forested areas of the buffer zone, permitting wild flora and fauna migrations.
- Consolidate efforts to achieve sustainable development in the zone among the active institutions and area industries that involve the local population.
- Provide incentives for communal participation in the development of the Biological Corridor.
As part of TSC's commitment to promote better environmental, social and economic incentives within the corridor, two of its components, RPR and the Amisconde Project joined forces to facilitate the implementation of the Strategic Participation Plan for 2006-2009. This process involved communal leaders and officials of key institutions in area development.
